Education and Background
Dr. Poulsen’s medical journey began at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, where he received numerous prestigious awards for excellence in radiology, surgery, and overall achievement. He then completed a rigorous six-year Integrated Interventional Radiology Residency at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health System, serving as Chief Resident for two consecutive years. His academic background as a PhD researcher at Texas Tech University further informs his ability to integrate the latest medical advancements into his practice.

Dr. Tyler Callese MD RPVI is a vascular and interventional specialist at Carolina Vascular and Interventional Specialists serving Gastonia, North Carolina. He is committed to improving patient care through advanced, minimally invasive techniques. He specializes in groundbreaking procedures such as Prostate Artery Embolization (PAE), Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE), and complex deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism interventions.Dr. Callese completed his medical education at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, followed by a surgical internship and an integrated residency in interventional radiology at UCLA. During his time at UCLA, he was elected to serve as Chief Resident and earned multiple accolades, including the RSNA Roentgen Resident Research Award, the Ahn Au Award for Clinical Excellence in Interventional Radiology, and recognition as Interventional Radiology Resident of the Year. His research contributions include numerous publications and invited presentations at national and international conferences.
Dr. Callese brings not only technical skill but also a patient-centered approach to his practice. As a former chief resident, he has extensive experience in leadership, mentorship, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
Outside of his practice, Dr. Callese enjoys spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors, skiing and surfing. He is passionate about advancing the field of interventional radiology and providing his patients with the highest standard of care.
